Day 5 –Mt. Vernon, IL to Lincoln City, IN - 104 mi.

Our route today takes us across southern Illinois and across the Wabash River into Indiana and on to the boyhood home of Abraham Lincoln for ages 7 to 21. “He and his family moved to Indiana in 1816 and stayed until 1830 when they moved on to Illinois.”

It was there in 1818 that his mother, Nancy Hanks Lincoln, died of milk sickness from drinking the milk of cows that had eaten poisonous white snakeroot.
