FUMC Communications Team minutes

February 11, 2008 by Jerry Niebaum

The Communications Team met from 7p.m. to 8p.m. in Room 203 downtown on Monday, February 11, 2008. In attendance were Jerry Niebaum, interim chair; Rob Bickers, Bill Bartscher, Ted Kihm, and Candice Ranney.

The meeting began with introductions and personal sharing with a focus on occupation.

The planned agenda:

1. Review http://fumcweb.com site

2. How/who can we recruit additional Communications Team members?

3. How can we make the Radio ministry more effective? Can we make the content available electronically?

4. How can the planned video for the capital campaign be modularized for future use? Can we make it available electronically?

5. How can we encourage/train other team leaders to use electronic communications?

6. How can we improve the Web resources we have now? Can we help insure that all browsers see our site in the same format?

7. How can we capture new content for electronic delivery e.g. sermons, services, music programs?

8. Set next meeting date/location.

9. Guidebook and Directory

Jerry distributed handouts showing the organization of the fumcweb.com Web site and talked about the various features in use and available for use. He expressed his hopes to present tutorials to the team about Web sites and use of blogs for FUMC. He noted that the youth have recently begun using a blog at: http://fumcweb.com/blog/youth.htm

Team members are asked to review church membership for possible additions to our team.

Candice expressed some concern about the Guidebook & Directory, since that is now a Communications Team responsibility. She will distribute the 2007 guidebook section for our review. Jerry and Rachel are working on the spreadsheet for the directory portion. Ted is hopeful that in future years we may be able to use the SQL database used by the Shelby system to directly produce the spreadsheet. He will check out the structure.

Rob reported that he and Terry Rombeck have agreed to put together the capital campaign video and will try to modularize it for future use outside the campaign. Rob will check with Mass Street Music on digital recording options for an alternative to our audio tape capture currently used on the downtown campus. Rob said that he had discussed some of the issues with Sara Wentz.

Additional features for communication that were suggested are a FUMC recipe blog and a bulletin board system. Ted will check on possibilities for ‘forum’ software that we might run on fumcweb.com .
